Major Problem: Nothing Said
Ricky Starks has addressed his absence from AEW TV on Highspots Sign It Live. He confirmed that he isn’t injured and that he is still with AEW even though fans expect to see him jump to WWE when his contract expires. When asked about fans who think he will end up with another company, Starks said he takes that as a compliment. He says, “Honestly, that’s so sweet that people would say that to me. I think it’s a compliment. A great thing to hear people care about me that much.”
Starks hasn’t appeared for AEW since March 2024 and wishes he could give fans an explanation. He competed in May for BTW by wrestling QT Marshall. On Friday night, Starks started off by saying, “No, (I’m not out of action due to injury). I’m healthy. I’m of sound mind and body. I’m capable to wrestle. Just, you know, not up to me.
Starks Believe Fans Mean a Lot
“I get a lot of messages lately where people are like, ‘Hey just checking in on you. Hope you’re doing well. Hope you’re mentally okay,’ and it’s so sweet. It means a lot to me because these people don’t know what’s going on, right? But yeah, I get a lot of messages and every time I read’em, I tear up. Because people still —-they care, you know? I love’em. I wish I can give an answer. I’m healthy, I’m ready to get back in the ring. I am in shape obviously, always been in shape. Sometimes it just isn’t up to me, I guess, as they say.
So, I love wrestling and I’m gonna figure out a way to do it one way or another. But, you know, I at least think I owe fans some type of explanation to the best of my ability, to the best of my knowledge so, some people don’t want to believe that. That’s fine. I don’t give a fuck. But, yeah, I wish I had more… a definitive answer but sometimes, darkness is your only friend when you’re definitely trying to find the light.”
Thoughts
If you know me then you know my thoughts about this. My first thought is…he didn’t say anything. He told the fans they mean a lot to him with their messages. However, he didn’t come out and say specifically what is the issue. Hey Ricky, us fans can help you out some if you tell us what’s going on. Of course, if you come right out and say I want to break my contract and go to the WWE then you have to tell us why. Don’t you, Ricky?
If you say I want to stay in the AEW, but I didn’t like how my character was going. I want it to be stronger and I want to go for the AEW World Championship. I don’t want to be stuck with the mid-carders. Well, you might get some backlash. You don’t want any backlash, do you, Ricky? Cody taught you well. Don’t ruin the brand. Instead, you’ll sit and wait. Hope that the fans will pressure Tony Khan into giving in to whatever is bothering you so bad that you have sat out for seven months.
What do you guys think about Ricky Starks’ statement? Do you want him with AEW or WWE and why? Sound off in the comments.
